Ingredients

  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 1 large orange
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 pieces star anise

Optional

  • 1/4 cup brandy apple brandy is delish!
  • 1/3 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  • Pour the apple cider into your slow cooker/crock pot. Slice your orange and add the orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and star anise to to the crock pot. (Add caramel sauce and/or brandy here, if using.) Heat on low for 2 hours, then switch to the "warm" setting.
  • Serve + Store: Serve warm! To store, discard orange slices, cinnamon sticks and star anise and store leftovers (covered) in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Notes

NOTE: If using caramel sauce, warm it up in the microwave a bit first - you don't want to add it to the crockpot as a solid chunk of caramel - it should be pourable.
NOTE: While the cider heats, the caramel will separate from the cider a bit, just stir or whisk it back in occasionally.
NOTE: Make sure to use fresh apple cider or unfiltered apple juice for the best results. Don't use sparkling cider, spiced cider, hard cider.
